NEUE ZÜRCHER ZEITUNG – Frontpage in Binary Code
The Neue Zürcher Zeitung is one of the world’s oldest newspapers. Since its founding in 1780, the frontpage layout has changed a few times. Some years later, the newspaper faced one of its biggest challenges: Going digital with its entire print content. To inform about the new digital strategy, the publishers chose to stun their readers with an allegedly faulty front page – entirely written in binary code, the language of the internet. What looked like a mistake amazed and amused the audience. And that’s how the newspaper not only went fully digital, but also totally viral.
